Judith Butler: Obama’s popularity rooted in economy, not progressive/enlightened values

In other words, plenty of those who voted for Obama are socially conservative, religious bigots, or to use my regular wording, “pigfuckers”. The author also makes the following point:

“The election of Barack Obama is historically significant in ways that are yet to be gauged, but it is not, and cannot be, a redemption, and if we subscribe to the heightened modes of identification that he proposes […] we risk believing that this political moment can overcome the antagonisms that are constitutive of political life…”

Presidential Records Act: no private (online) correspondence allowed for US presidents

“For years, like legions of other professionals, Mr. Obama has been all but addicted to his BlackBerry […] But before he arrives at the White House, he will probably be forced to sign off. In addition to concerns about e-mail security, he faces the Presidential Records Act, which puts his correspondence in the official record and ultimately up for public review, and the threat of subpoenas. A decision has not been made on whether he could become the first e-mailing president, but aides said that seemed doubtful.”

Prepare to be disappointed Obama T-shirt

New smart t-shirt by rstevens, the guy behind Diesel Sweeties, the pixelated webcomic. (Related: read about Obama’s recent moves towards conservative assclownery, or as some may put it, willingness to become electable)

Rstevens of Dieswelsweeties\' new Obama \"Dare to Hope. Prepare to be Disappointed\" T-shirt

Still a lesser evil, I suppose.
