Art. Lebedev: Moscow Metro map 2010 and 2100

“It took almost four years to develop this new map. We aimed to make it recognizable, yet truly novel, to be able to satisfy both passengers’ demands and design requirements. The final design is a flexible graphics system that allows creating a whole range of maps of various size and complexity.

Sexual harassment okay as it ensures humans breed, Russian judge rules

I can’t remember stumbling over this 2008 story before.

“A Russian advertising executive who sued her boss for sexual harassment lost her case after a judge ruled that employers were obliged to make passes at female staff to ensure the survival of the human race.”

This beautifully mimed piece of Sovjet psychedelia also appears in an… unusual flash animation I stumbled over the over day. Know your meme has more details.

Edit: The song (Eduard Khil – I Am Very Glad Because I’m Finally Reuturning Back Home) can be heard on Spotify as well.

Fallout themed Russian LARP

The photos seem to originate from a Russian Livejournal-account with at least one post in English explaining what appears to be quite serious, non-facepalm inducing cosplaying/Live action roleplaying.

EDIT: Apparently these people play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (great pics!) around the Chernobyl site as well (thx, Jonatan).

Stray dogs learn how to ride subway

“Scientists in Moscow say stray dogs have learned to use the subway to travel into the city’s center in search of food.

Biology professor Andrew Poyarkov said he has seen dogs exhibiting commuting behavior, as the dogs travel into the center of the city where they can more easily find food each morning, then travel back to where they live each evening.”

Russian government to regulate Emo and Goth culture?

“Last month the State Duma held a hearing on “Government Strategy in the Sphere of Spiritual and Ethical Education”, a piece of legislation aimed at curbing “dangerous teen trends”. There, without a clue in the world, social conservatives lumped “emos” together with skinheads, pushing for heavy regulation of emo websites and the banning of emo and goth fashion from schools and government buildings.”
