Beatles 3000 offers a quick intro to the Beatles, from a distant future archeological point of view. Direct Youtube link.

As link master Andy points out, this really feels a lot like Idiocracy.

Rewording of Jon McNaughton’s One Nation Under God

This is another parody of Utah artist Jon McNaughton’s creepy painting with a theocratic vibe. We get a thorough rewrite of the original’s explanations of the motif, with the nice JavaScript scroller and all. I keep my own backup copies of the original and this parody.

I recently discovered a less subtle, Cthulhu themed parody of the painting as well.

One Nation Under Cthulhu McNaughton parody

The picture (origin unknown) delivers Lovecraft-inspired parody of a “One Nation Under God” themed painting that has floated around the Internet for some time.

To fully grasp the madness of this work, read the original’s very elaborate explanations and feel that theocratic rage scare the shit out of you (Backup copy). Yeah, these people are allowed to vote.

EDIT: Found another parody.

Activists demand posthumous UK government apology to WWII code breaker, computer inventor Alan Turing

Turing was prosecuted for gross indecency in 1952 after admitting a sexual relationship with a man and was forced to choose between a prison sentence and hormone therapy. After choosing the latter and getting his career destroyed, Turing killed himself two years later.

H. H. Holmes’ “Murder Castle”

“Holmes [opened his hotel] for the World’s Columbian Exposition in 1893 […] The ground floor of the Castle contained, aside from Holmes’ own relocated drugstore, various shops […] while the upper two floors contained his personal office as well as a maze of over one hundred windowless rooms with doorways that would open to brick walls, oddly angled hallways, stairways to nowhere, doors that could only be opened from the outside, and a host of other strange and labyrinthine constructions. […] Over a period of three years, Holmes selected female victims from among his employees […], lovers and hotel guests, and would torture and kill them. Some were locked in soundproof bedrooms fitted with gas lines that permitted him to asphyxiate them at any time. Some victims were locked in a huge bank vault near his office; he sat and listened as they screamed, panicked and eventually suffocated. The victims’ bodies went by a secret chute to the basement, where some were meticulously dissected, stripped of flesh, crafted into skeleton models, and then sold to medical schools.”

There’s a book on this.

“Come to Finland”: a hard cover book and poster collection of vintage ads for Finnish tourism

A charming book (available in English, Finnish, French, German and Swedish) for culturally oriented hipsters and those longing for simpler times… when Finland was a shitty, underdeveloped agrarian economy.

Some of the ads can be ordered as full-size posters, the format they were designed for. And because I was bored tonight, I stole some print quality tif files from the press kit (requires free registration on the original site) and made them available for download with thumbnails.

EDIT 2008-12-03 16:11 EET: I was asked to remove the files linked to above for legal reasons. The registration required for accessing the pictures is also not freely available to the public or automatically granted; an editor of the site recognized my name and therefore accepted my request swiftly.
